Happy New Year!

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Holiday2010I sent out belated holiday wishes to my dog family. What fun to get back
updates and pictures! I never cease to be overwhelmed by the number of
Airedale folks who say my pups are the best Airedales they have ever
had. I try to do the best job I can raising my babies. To have them turn
out so well amazes me every time. I am so blessed!

Echo is now retired. She has given us many great pups. She finally let
me know it was time to be done. She was a bit tired after the last
litter but she is back to her old energetic self now. I look forward to
having her around for many more years. Maybe we’ll take up hunting. She
would love that.

Bree is just a grand dog. I love the girls but Bree is my heart dog.
He’s not too thrilled about being kept on a diet but at the speed he
puts on weight it can’t be helped. He loves to go on hikes.

If all goes well Ivy will be having puppies mid February. She is still
her puppish self. Yesterday we let one of our horses roam out of the
fence to graze. Ivy followed him round, never let him out of her sight.
She would let off her “woop, woops” to let us know that something highly
irregular was going on. It was funny to watch. I let her know what a
good job she was doing and she was quite pleased with herself.

To my readers, I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. May God bless
you with a great new year!

Puppies are here!

8am Three puppies born! Two females and a male

10 am, three more have arrived. She has had six so far.

4:30pm, 11 puppies born. One died and there is one little male that I don’t expect to make it.

The tally is three females and seven males. Ivy is doing well. She ate a little this evening and drank all the beef broth I offered her.

Still waiting

Part of the problem was me. I miscounted. Ivy wasn’t due till the second week of December. But besides that, it’s hard to pin a date down for a dog’s due-date. They are in heat for a week and this time Ivy was in heat for two weeks. We are closer now than we were on Monday. She is eating very little. She can only waddle and sits or lays down when ever possible. So we wait.

Maybe tonight?

Ivy’s still hanging in there. I was thinking the full moon might help her but that’s past. And still we wait…

We should have puppies on the way now. It seemed like it would never happen. Ivy was a whole month late coming into heat and then took two weeks before she would stand to be bred. I guess she was not as eager for puppies as the rest of us. Now, if all goes well, we are expecting pups the first week in December.

We had a snow here last week. The dogs and I went out early to enjoy it.
